Dean, Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) located in Lynchburg, VA, seeks a new Dean who will serve as the academic, operational, intellectual and administrative leader for the College of Osteopathic Medicine.


The Dean has primary responsibility for LUCOM regarding mission, vision, goals, strategic plan, preparation, oversight and administration of the budget, once approved by the administration and Board.  Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer and Provost of Liberty University, the Dean of LUCOM has day to day responsibility for academic and operational matters and reports the outcomes of operations and educational efforts to the Board through the Chief Academic Officer and Provost.


In addition, the Dean serves as the principle spokesperson for the institution and represents LUCOM professionally to public, governmental and professional organizations, groups and individuals. He/She is responsible for advancing the professional and public standing of the COM. He/She provides leadership, serves as chief spokesperson and holds primary responsibility for all personnel, financial, educational and student matters for the COM.


The ideal candidate will possess a D.O. degree from an accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine, Board Certification from of the American Osteopathic Association, and at least five years’ experience as a Dean, Assistant or Associate Dean, or full time Chair of a Clinical Department at a College of Osteopathic Medicine or Medical School. She/He will have experience and demonstrated knowledge and skill in the design, delivery and evaluation of medical education as well as clinical, academic, business operations, and legal experience and expertise suitable to allow him/her to provide mentorship and leadership for students and faculty.


Opening its doors to its first class of student-doctors in 2014, the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine is the second osteopathic college in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the thirtieth in the U.S.  LUCOM offers the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and holds full initial accreditation from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. Our college graduated its first class in 2018.  LUCOM provides state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that our osteopathic medical students receive a highly advanced medical education in a positive learning environment.
