Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education

The Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education (ADGME) oversees the development, implementation and assessment of programs and services structured to achieve high-quality outcomes for residency and fellowship programs. The scope of this position encompasses direct responsibility for both clinical and educational program compliance with policies and regulations that are complex and frequently changing.  The ADGME manages all aspects of the GME office, directs ICOM’s 501c3 educational consortium focused on GME, continuing medical education, and research and will serve as the ACGME Approved Designated Institutional Official of Mountain States Institute for GME and Research. The ADGME will collaborate with new and assist existing residency programs in the region, will endeavor to develop new GME programs and will develop a strategic plan for use of ICOM resources towards that goal. The ADGME directs accreditation and regulatory activities and serves as a readily available resource for GME Program Directors. The ADGME leads the GME review process and its programs, including oversight of ACGME requirements and the clinical learning environment at major participating sites. The ADGME will build upon accreditation requirements to improve the quality of the institution's overall GME enterprise, including the development of new participating sites and new programs.  The ADGME will also teach and provide direct educational services to ICOM medical students in their areas of expertise, will assist in the administration of the undergraduate programs and will serve on ICOM committees.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • DO or MD.
  • Five years of experience in a medical education setting with previous leadership, financial and managerial experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Graduate Medical Education and institutional requirements.
  • Experience in developing and launching new GME programs.
  • Experience analyzing a wide variety of policies and procedures.
  • Detailed familiarity with GME policies.
  • Must be available for travel to remote residency sites and for periodic travel to conferences.
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in supervising GME staff.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial forecasting preferred.
  • A team player who values collaboration, mutual support, diversity and inclusion, and team cohesion
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, support and lead diverse groups.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and disseminate data in order to conduct assessments and provide strategic suggestions. Attention to detail, accuracy, and deadlines is crucial.
  • Strong organizational and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership skills including comfort in exercising authority and fostering respect among faculty, students, residents and community partners.
