The Division of Cardiology encompasses the entire spectrum of care of patients with cardiovascular disease. As such, faculty members of the division not only assume responsibility for the care of the entire patient, but also focus on highly specialized areas of patient care.
The focus on highly specialized areas of patient care is a direct result of the explosion of knowledge and advances in technology in cardiovascular medicine over the past 20 years. Accordingly, the division is comprised of groups of individuals who provide such highly specialized services.
These groups can be broadly categorized as follows
In addition to the clinical mission of the division, faculty members are engaged in specific areas of research within their sub-specialty. Finally, faculty members are continuously engaged in the education of students, physicians-in-training and each other. This is the essence of working within a university environment and it is this "culture" which is unique in the state of New Mexico.
