About PURE Oral Surgery

DR. MICHAEL ELLIS

Dr. Michael Ellis is the CEO of Pure Oral Surgery. A Dallas native, Dr. Ellis attended Dallas Public Schools, Southern Methodist University, and Baylor College of Dentistry. After six years in his private practice of general dentistry in Dallas, Dr. Ellis committed six additional years to completing consecutive residencies in the dental specialty areas of Prosthodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Ellis has provided healthcare and education across the globe, is a retired Colonel from the U.S. Army, and has been serving on the Baylor University Medical Center staff since 2005. He has completed appointments as the Residency Program Director and Chief of Service in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center and as the Residency Program Director for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Texas A&M College of Dentistry. Dr. Ellis also lectures nationally on opioid abuse, prescribing considerations, and the control of post-operative discomfort following the surgical removal of teeth and was appointed as an inaugural member of the Texas A&M Opioid Task Force, facilitating multiple community events across the state to include the training of healthcare personnel in the emergency administration of NARCAN for suspected opioid overdose in our communities.

As a former board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Ellis served as the written qualifying examination content expert for dental implants and served for three years as the chair of the Committee on Anesthesia for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, assisting in the development of a national training model for the management of simulated anesthesia emergencies.

Dr. Ellis is one of five practitioners in the United States who is dual-trained in the specialties of prosthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is uniquely qualified to address tooth loss secondary to congenital malformations, aging, or facial trauma. In addition to his vast resume, Dr. Ellis’ primary areas of research and interest are bone growth processes to enhance and facilitate rapid orthodontic movement of teeth as well as identifying factors related to implant surgical success.
