MAPMG is short for the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group. We are the doctors responsible for the medical care of Kaiser Permanente members. We are owned and led by physicians. Through a unique relationship with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, our independent medical group chooses to work exclusively with one insurance company instead of many. Likewise, the insurance arm of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan contracts only with MAPMG rather than many disparate, independent physicians. Together, MAPMG and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan serve the community as Kaiser Permanente, providing care and coverage in a highly integrated and coordinated way that protects physician-led clinical decision making and reduces hassle for patients to get what they need.

MAPMG physicians work in Kaiser Permanente medical centers and also care for Kaiser Permanente members in selected community hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.

The physicians of MAPMG – more than 1,500 Permanente physicians in total – make up the largest physician-owned and -led medical group in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metropolitan areas. For more than three decades, our physicians have cared exclusively for members of Kaiser Permanente medical insurance plans in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Since 2009, MAPMG has been directly affiliated with the largest, and one of the most successful, physician groups in the country – The Permanente Medical Group, known as TPMG, in Northern California.
