Overview

Inova Health System is a not-for-profit health care system based in Northern Virginia that consists of hospitals and other health services including emergency and urgent care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and blood donor services, and wellness classes. Governed by a voluntary board of community members, Inova’s mission is to provide quality care and improve the health of the diverse communities we serve.

Inova Health System began in 1956 in response to Northern Virginia’s growing need for convenient, accessible health care. Known as the Fairfax Hospital Association, the not-for-profit health care system grew from one hospital to a network of hospitals and other health care services. In the late 1980s, we changed our name to Inova Health System. Many people like the name Inova (pronounced inn-OH-vah) because it seems to suggest both our commitment to innovation in health care and our deep roots in the Northern Virginia community.

Inova Alexandria Hospital is a not-for-profit community hospital that has provided area residents with a full range of medical care and services for over 125 years. Our 339-bed hospital is staffed by more than 700 physicians in 48 specialties and is conveniently located near Washington, DC, just off I-395.

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is a 151-bed community hospital serving the rapidly growing suburbs in western Fairfax and eastern Loudoun counties. The hospital provides a full range of emergency, medical, surgical, critical, orthopedic, obstetric and pediatric care services.

Inova Fairfax Hospital is a 753-bed regional medical center serving the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The hospital is a medical and nursing teaching hospital, affiliated with the medical schools of Georgetown and George Washington universities and the Medical College of Virginia, and with the nursing schools of George Mason and Marymount universities and Northern Virginia Community College.

As northern Virginia’s only pediatric tertiary care center,
Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children provides the highest level of care for our patients. Our commitment to high quality services, compassionate patient care and state-of-the-art technology enables us to remain the pediatric hospital of choice for physicians and families.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is a 232-bed community hospital located a few miles from the famous home of George Washington. The hospital is home to the nationally recognized Inova Rehabilitation Center and Inova Joint Replacement Center. In 1996, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital received the highest rating given by the national hospital accreditation organization, an achievement reached by fewer than 5 percent of all hospitals. The hospital was built in 1976 by the Fairfax Hospital Association, now known as Inova Health System. Virtually all medical services are offered at the hospital.
