Baylor consistently ranks among the top of the nation’s 179 medical schools, with U.S. News & World Report. Baylor ranks 20th nationally in NIH funding to medical schools, and first in the State. Twelve departments rank among the top 30 for funding from the NIH, with Genetics ranked number one and Pediatrics ranked number five. Baylor jointly owns Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, and is affiliated with Texas Children’s Hospital, the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Harris Health System’s Ben Taub Hospital, The Menninger Clinic, Memorial Hermann-TIRR, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Baylor also provides medical services for six of Harris Health’s community health centers and the Thomas Street Health Center, with a primary focus on the care of patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. These teaching hospitals and health centers give medical students, health profession students, and resident physician trainees vast exposure to diverse and complex patient populations.
