Bassett Healthcare Network is an innovative and unique health system that provides care and services to people living in a 5,600 square mile region in upstate New York, roughly the size of Connecticut. The organization includes five corporately affiliated hospitals, over two dozen community-based health centers, more than 20 school-based health centers, two skilled nursing facilities, a research institute, and other health partners in related fields. Bassett is forging a path as a leader in rural medicine, offering advanced care to some of the most remote areas of Central New York and beyond. The health system is working to advance its mission – to improve the health of its patients and wellbeing of its communities – through exceptionally integrated services, education, research, digital health solutions, and expanding partnerships with institutions and companies like Columbia University, Optum, Andreesen Horowitz (a16z) Bio + Health, Masonic Medical Research Institute, and others. Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown is the network’s tertiary care hospital, providing Central New York with both traditional hospital-based maternity, surgical, and medical care as well as more sophisticated diagnostics and procedures. These include cardiovascular surgery, minimally-invasive robot-assisted surgery, specialized cancer treatment, advanced vascular care, trauma care, bariatric care, neurosurgery, and advanced orthopedic and spine care. The medical center houses the Bassett Heart Care Institute and the Bassett Cancer Institute. It also offers postgraduate residency training programs in Internal Medicine and General Surgery and is a medical school campus of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Additionally, through an expanding partnership with Columbia University’s Irving Medical Center, Bassett patients have direct connections with digital health to cardiovascular specialists in New York City.

The Bassett Medical Group is comprised of a full-time, salaried staff numbering over 600 physicians and advanced practice clinicians in a multi-specialty group practice. The group provides both primary and specialty care.

Overview

Bassett physicians and other health professionals provide primary, preventive, and outpatient care at five corporately affiliated hospitals and various rural health centers across the Central New York region. The health system also provides medical, mental, and dental health services at more than 20 school-based health centers throughout the region to children who might otherwise never have the chance to receive this care, including telehealth services in cooperation with the University of Rochester Medical Center for advanced pulmonary care. The network connects people in the region to a multitude of specialists who provide technical expertise and skills in areas typically found only in big cities, including a nationally renowned Gender Wellness Center. These specialists see patients at the hospitals as well as at specialty campuses in Cooperstown, Delhi, Herkimer, Oneonta, Hamilton, Hartwick Seminary, Little Falls, and other areas. Comprehensive specialty services – including cardiology, cancer, orthopedics, ENT (ear, nose & throat), vascular care, dermatology, women’s health, neurology, endocrinology, and much more. Additionally, a variety of outpatient diagnostic and surgical procedures are available. The care across the region results in more than 700,000 patient visits per year.
